TOPBUILDINGJOBS.COM AND THE CONSTRUCTION EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF GEORGIA LAUNCH CEFGAJOBS.COM TO COMBAT IMPENDING LABOR SHORTAGE
~ CEFGAJOBS.com to serve as a model for employing students and addressing the labor shortage in the construction industry ~

Atlanta, GA – The shortage of skilled labor in construction has been a topic of conversation for years now.  With baby boomers starting to retire, and a shortage of young workers entering the industry, construction firms may soon find themselves in a serious employee crisis.  The Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA) and TopBuildingJobs.com have teamed up to tackle this impending dilemma.  Their hope is that CEFGAJOBS.com will help solve the labor crunch in Georgia and become a paradigm for other states.  In addition to helping employers with labor shortages, CEFGAJOBS.com will provide students and young people with access to quality jobs, internships, and work-study programs, and will help them embark on successful careers.

TopBuildingJobs.com is powering CEFGAJOBS.com, and users can expect the same quality, experience, and usefulness they have come to expect from the construction industry’s leading jobs board.  Executive Vice President of TopBuildingJobs.com, Justin Webb, promises “the very highest levels of technological facilitation, combined with features and special nuances that speak to the building community and the young people using the site.”  CEFGAJOBS.com will have positions from a vast array of companies in all sectors of the construction industry, as well as articles, information, and job seeking tips for students.

CEFGA is also intimately connected with the site.  The foundation is the official accrediting agency for high school construction programs in Georgia.  Through their work with the Georgia Department of Education and other youth organizations across the state, CEFGA will generate interest in the jobs board and guide young people through the job seeking process.  CEFGAJOBS.com is CEFGA’s latest effort to continue their mission:  facilitating increased student involvement and participation in the construction industry to help firms meet current and projected labor demands.  Scott Shelar, Executive Director of CEFGA, said, “We are leveraging the programs that are already out there training students, and helping them place those students in quality jobs and internships.”

Few will question the need for a student construction job board, but to those few the leaders of CEFGA insist on its importance and utility.  “The popular myth that you must go to college to be successful may be a reason construction is down, but it is simply not the case.  If you do not want to pursue a bachelor’s degree, there are options to pursue training and start a career.  In the construction industry, especially with almost half of the workforce leaving in the next fifteen years, the most impressive thing is the upside potential:  you can start off working in the field and climb as high as you want to go.”  Both students planning on going to college and those planning on starting a career directly out of high school will benefit from the internship and job opportunities available to them on CEFGAJOBS.com.  Such experience will make them more competitive candidates for both future jobs and schooling.

About the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia
CEFGA is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 education foundation started in 1993 to address the critical skilled workforce shortage and to assist its members in finding the employees they need to meet current and projected demand.  CEFGA also serves as the official high school construction program accrediting agency of the Georgia Department of Education, and provides in-depth evaluation and ongoing feedback to 300-plus high school and technical college programs.  With more than 7,500 students currently enrolled in programs that are CEFGA accredited or in the process, CEFGA is the leader in student construction employment in Georgia, and a great resource for the industry.  Additionally, CEFGA raises student awareness and interest in construction careers through its popular CareerExpo and participation in the SkillsUSA Championship events, as well as its intern program.

I have noticed over the past few years in So Cal it is getting harder to find employees with drivers licenses and now with the gas crunch its worse. I know good hard working construction people that just cannot get to the jobs. In my thirty years of construction work in So Cal you know you are going to have to travel sometimes an hour and a half to a project. I would like to know if anyone else sees this problem in other areas of this countries construction industry and what they are doing about it?
